Music study is an essential component of a child’s education.  The objective of this studio is to develop the musical potential of each student in the areas of general musicianship, technical proficiency and performance, and to help them become life long learners and lovers of music.
PRACTICE
Suggested Daily Practice Time:
Grade 1-2: 20-30 min.  Grades 7-8: 50-60 min.
Grade 3-4: 35-40 min.  Grades 9-12: 60-90 min.
Grade 5-6: 40-45 min.    
Students may need to practice more or less than suggested depending on maturity and level of advancement.  This will be determined by the teacher along with the parent and student.
REGULAR PRACTICE  A practice schedule of five or more days a week is required.  Success and enjoyment in piano study comes only through regular and consistent practice.  Parents must realize that is their responsibility to provide the structure for their child’s practice.
PRACTICE RECORD  Students are required to keep a practice record in their notebook.  For students in grades 1-8, this to be signed by the parent each week.
LESSON NOTEBOOK  Students should  read the lesson notebook carefully and try to cover all practice steps daily.  Parents are encouraged to help younger students read their notebook and understand lesson instructions.
PRACTICE AWARDS  Recognition will be given at each recital to students who achieve their weekly time goal and have maintained a regular practice schedule of at least  five days a week.
PIANO  Students need to practice on a piano that is in good condition and that is tuned at least once a year.
METRONOME  Each student must have a metronome.
WEEKLY LESSONS
30 minute - Beginners in grades 1-2 
45 minute - Second year through intermediate level and beginners grade 3 and up.
60 minute- Late intermediate and advanced students.
GROUP LESSONS
There will be four group lessons scheduled throughout the year.  Group lessons are helpful in developing stage presence and confidence during performance.  There is no extra charge for the group lesson.  Please make an effort to see that your child attends. Group lessons are considered make up lessons in the event that a missed lesson does not get made up.
TUITION FEES AND BILLING
REGISTRATION FEE $25.00 yearly.
MONTHLY TUITION (Sept. – May)  PER LESSON FEE (June – Aug.)
$80.00 for 30 min. lessons    $20.00 per lesson
$114.00 for 45 min. lessons  $28.50 per lesson
$152.00 for 60 min. lessons  $38.00 per lesson
TUTION PAYMENTS   Tuition is payable in nine equal monthly installments from Sept. through May.  Lessons for the 2011-2012 school year will begin on Mon. Sept. 12 and conclude on Friday June 8.  This makes for approximately 38 lessons with scheduled holidays. As a reminder, a statement will be issued on the first lesson of the month and payment will be due on the second lesson.
ADDITIONAL FEES   Additional charges for music or audition fees will be included on the monthly statement.  Music will be sold at the cost of the book plus 15% for tax and shipping.
MISSED LESSONS  Please call in advance to excuse a lesson.  Excused lessons may be rescheduled only if scheduling permits within the same week. No credit will be given for missed lessons.  The group lessons scheduled throughout the year are at no extra charge and are considered make up lessons.  If the student or teacher misses a lesson that does not get made up, the group lesson will be counted as a make up lesson.  If additional make up lessons are needed the student may schedule make up lessons during the summer.
SUMMER LESSONS
For maintenance and progress students should take at least three summer lessons. Summer lessons can be scheduled on an individual basis and need not be weekly. Summer lessons are charged at the per lesson fee and payment can be made at the end of the summer for the total number of lessons taken.
RECITALS AND PERFORMANCES
RECITALS are scheduled in December and early May.  Participation in the recitals is required.
AUDITIONS & MUSICFEST  Participation in auditions is optional but encouraged for goal setting and feedback on progress.  The teacher will advise students on which of the following events to enter: 
 Washington State Music Teachers’ Ass.  (late Feb. or early March)
 National Piano Guild  (mid. April)
 Musicfest Northwest (early May)
COMMUNICATION   Cooperation and communication between parents, teacher and student is essential.  Parents are encouraged to speak with the teacher whenever there is a question or concern regarding the lesson.
LESSON COMMITMENT  In respect to the teacher and the time reserved for the student, each student who registers for lessons makes a commitment for the entire school year.
